Switzerland is another country to digitize tour guides with SmartGuide platform

While walking around well-known tourist cities and destinations, one thing stands out: the growth in the number of tourists in the last 18 months. It looks that life is returning to normal as we witness people dining in restaurants, taking a first look at attractive sites, and wandering without a face mask. But tourism has experienced a significant and abrupt transformation in the last two years. Rather than relying on tour groups, people are now opting to travel alone. SmartGuide platform has followed and supported this trend. Couples and friends are now frequently seen travelling independently thanks to accessible online travel bookings and the SmartGuide audio guide system.

Regional and national tourist bureaus have recognized and promoted this massive shift in individual tourism. SmartGuide is now the world’s fastest-growing digital tour guide platform, with the support of the Czech government, Singapore, Kyrgyzstan, and Switzerland. On SmartGuide, the Swiss Tourism Board has created self-guided walking tours across 24 cities to promote and inspire tourists coming to Switzerland. These guides are available on the SmartGuide platform for tourists who would like to avoid carrying paper maps and instead instantly learn about the destination by hearing through an audio guide.

SmartGuide allows regional tourism boards with no content other than an overview of the destination’s sights to create audio guides. Thanks to the SmartGuide’s Content Management System (CMS) it is now easy for anyone to create their own guided tours, possibly with some mentoring and quality control from the SmartGuide team. Alternatively, the copywriters at SmartGuide can take existing content from other sources, transform it into a self-guided format, and take care of the rest.

Regional and national tourism boards use the SmartGuide platform because it encourages and inspires tourists to visit less-frequented areas with fewer crowds. SmartGuide can also help to collect consistent analytical insights and deliver relevant data reports about local visitors. SmartGuide helps DMOs to save time and money, as many destinations previously considered to develop their app, which is time-consuming and costly.
